I myself can be seen in the crowd over the ref's shoulder before a Gary McAllister penalty in the Leeds United v Norwich City game towards the end of the 1994/5 season. This was captured in the "Passport to Europe" video.
Leeds won 2:1 and went into the UEFA Cup whilst Norwich were relegated. It was a long drive home with my canary wife.
Any other Ampthillians have similar football celebrity claims?
I think I may have been at that game too - I certainly went to watch Luton play at Cambridge around that time.
The picture of Steve White takes me back as one of the first games I went to see was when he scored 4 goals in a 6-0 win over Grimsby (someone will either correct me or tell me what date that was). Steve scored quite a few goals, but never seemed the strongest of players some times he seemed to just be in the right place at the right time to slot the ball in - or fall over it! The combination of David Moss and Ricky Hill was always good to watch and its a real shame that Ricky didn't get more chances on the international stage.
Two of my favourite meetings with football celebs were:-
Outside the Forest Ground circa 1970 when the Leeds Team Bus pulled up. As usual Billy Bremner was first off dragging a fag from a packet but unable to find his lighter. He saw me with a lit one and called me over through the security line. I lit his fag for him and we had a chat. I then gave him my lighter. (I never told my wife - it was a birthday present)
At the Leeds United Club Dinner in 1990. I was kneeling on the floor with my Swiss Army Knife in my hand seperating the hem of my wifes Evening Gown from a Buckle on one of her shoes. Lucas Radabe walking towards me stopped and said "No need to kneel"
