Pill Boxes

I see that they are celebrating 70 years

Is there any stories/history about our one? I presume that is what it is?

the spooky thing is the article mentions norman castles. If you look at the pill box facing towards the north and look half right across the field there is a copse. The earthworks there are the remains of a norman castle

Just searched geograph for the one in Ampthill and can't find it, perhaps I'm not thorough enough. Race you there Fortytwa!

It's quite visible when you reach the top of the hill going out of Ampthill - it's on the left side.

Perhaps Memory Lane may have some photos of it when it was built and manned by the Home Guard.

Is this the "tank turning circle" on Bedford Street or the rings for anti-motorcyclist wire on Church Street?

Or something else?

Sadly I can't find any pictures of the Pillbox taken during the war years.

During my search I came across these 1939 pictures of Ampthills high tec poison gas detector.
